Conners has a remarkable record with babies, winning the two-year-old triple crown of the Golden Slipper, Sires Produce Stakes and Champagne Stakes with Burst and Tierce before adding another two Slippers from Prowl and Belle de Jour.

He knows how to get a two-year-old to show its best. His way is to nurse his babies through a preparation but Aegean Sea's efforts in the feed bin make that tough.

"She is up there with the best two-year-olds I have had," Conners said. "She is better than Assail [which was favourite for Magic Millions a couple of years ago before being scratched on race morning].

"The only problem with this filly is that she is too good of a doer. She eats her head off. I don't like to work my two-year-olds that hard but you have to with her."

Conners is mindful of the Golden Slipper with the Beneteau filly and "win, lose or draw" she will be going for a spell after running at Rosehill on Saturday.

"She needs to have a break, but I will need to get the timing right because the way she does, we might need to get her back in the stable very quickly," Conners said.

"If she can win on Saturday she is basically three-quarters of the way to the Slipper, which is important."

Aegean Sea is the only two-year-old to take race experience into Saturday but Conners believes it will be a tougher than her debut all-the-way-win on the Kensington track two weeks ago.

"She has done extremely well since she raced. Seven out of seven barrier is not so much help, but I suppose it is not that much of a disadvantage in a small field," he said. "She will better for that run but I would have loved to have drawn a better barrier.

"I think it is a harder race because there are a lot of trial winners and a few colts there that look pretty good."

While Aegean Sea focuses on the Golden Slipper, five of her rivals are eligible for next month's Magic Millions. Ready Already, Voilier and Invincible Dame have all won barrier trials in impressive fashion.

Sam Kavanagh, who trains Invincible Dame, said it would be a good pointer to the Magic Millions.

"We think we have a nice filly, but Clarry's filly was very good winning and there are another couple there that have won trials," Kavanagh said.

"It is hard to know where you sit against those horses until you get to race day. Hopefully we measure and can get to the Magic Millions."
