The 20-year-old university student won the A Grade criterium from Mitch Carrington and Dave Rugendyke after finishing second to Newcastle visitor Sam Layzell the previous week.
It was a good, hard ride,” the third year Rural Science student at Armidale’s University of New England said.
“I jumped away after a few minutes but Mitch caught me and I was able to get on his back and sit on him the last few laps.”
Sherwood will continue to ride the TCC criteriums while at home on uni holidays.
Earlier this year he was also able to ride in Tahiti as part of the Paradice Investments team.
Unfortunately he broke an elbow in a race fall there.
“Apart from that, it was a good experience,” he said.
With no major events coming up, he will continue to race in the Tamworth crits.
Josh Nash also had success yesterday, winning the combined C and D grade from Dave Menzies and Mark Jarvis.
Club publicity officer Darren “Chuck” Taylor said numbers were down a little, forcing the club to combine the four grades into two races.
“We had about 10 in A and B and a similar number in C and D,” Taylor said.
