In fact, the Tigers were beaten comfortably by the McDonald’s crew who made 6-139 and then dismissed the Tigers for 108.
The first impressive effort for the Tigers was TDCA president Richard Bullock’s four-over spell.
He claimed 5-16 to be the first bowler to notch a five-wicket haul this season, a rare occurrence in T20 at the best of times.
However the McDonald’s top order had done the damage.
Ryan Cooper (23 off 16 balls), Michael Rixon (64 off 51 balls) and Keyton Hislop (35 off 37) had plundered early.
Cooper and Rixon, who hit five fours and a six in his half century, posted a 46-run opening stand and then Hislop and Rixon added 78 for the second wicket.
Then Bullock, who claimed all three batsmen, carved through the balance to give his side a little under seven an over to chase.
However that chase never took off as Jake Everett (2-15) and Lachlan Davidson (2-23) combined to leave the Tigers 2-12 early and then 5-57.
James Bellamy (38 off 22 balls) tried to heave the side back into the game but, when he was dismissed by Brad Redshaw (2-23), the Tigers were doomed.
Greg Tighe (21 off 21) and Mitch Newman (11) put on 32 for the seventh wicket but Nick Smith (3-15) claimed both as well as effecting a run out on Jack Richards.
That was the second rare occurrence in the Tiger innings.
Richards was run out without facing a ball, a diamond duck, after Tighe hit one straight back to Smith who fielded, and backhanded a flick at the stumps to find Richards short of his ground.
In the other match, Halpin’s Plumbing were run down for the second week in a row despite registering a good 8-175 total at Riverside 2.
Mitch Holt (47 off 32 balls), Col Smyth (41 off 21) and Craig Baker (26 off 11) were the batting mainstays for the Halpin Hurricanes.
Holt struck six fours and a six while Smyth hammered two sixes and three fours in his 21-ball stay.
He also went within a few metres of hitting the Psarakis Accounting sign and a $400 jackpot.
Will Chesterfield took 2-34 from his three overs before James Psarakis cut loose.
While Schoolies week did nothing for Matt Everett’s performance for the Hurricanes, it had Psarakis in great form.
The 18-year-old THS school captain took just 25 balls to reach his 50 when he launched his ninth four over square leg.
He finished with 12 fours and three sixes all up in his 44-ball 90.
He and Troy Sands (9) put on 63 for the opening wicket.
Sands had been the batting star the previous week but sat back and enjoyed the ride with Psarakis.
Ben Middlebrook then clipped 58 off 42 balls and, with Simon Toyer (12 off 14), got the Steggles side home with a ball to spare.
A Middlebrook boundary over long off brought up the winning runs off the fifth ball of the final over.
It left Steggles on top (16) with the Tigers and McDonald’s both on 12 and Halpin’s Hurricanes on six points.
This Friday the Hurricanes and McDonald’s match up on Max Sutton Oval (Riv 3) and Steggles and the Tigers battle it out on Riverside 2.
