Elizabeth Staunton, 73, was holidaying with her daughter at a cabin near Point Lookout in The New England National Park about 80km north east of Armidale.
Officers say Mrs Staunton was last seen about 10.30am yesterday by a witness walking along Point Lookout Road and has not been seen since.
Relatives and police are concerned for Mrs Staunton’s welfare as she has not returned to the cabin and is not familiar with the area. Mrs Staunton also suffers from dementia and police believe she is not equipped with any personal belongings.
Mrs Staunton is described as being Caucasian appearance about 150cm tall with a medium build. She has sandy coloured collar length hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a white linen shirt, brown slacks and open-toed shoes.
A search of the area was conducted, including NSW Police, SES, National Parks and Wildlife and VRA and concluded at 11pm due to deteriorating weather conditions and rough terrain.
Police have been told a small silver sedan was parked near Point Lookout around the time Mrs Staunton went missing and are hoping the occupants of this car are able to contact police.
Officers began day two of the search at 8am today.
