The Central Hotel, on one of the city’s prime patches of real estate, will re-open on December 15 as CH Boutique Hotel.
The hotel, to be leased by former Powerhouse CEO Jye Segboer, is in the final weeks of a $3.5 million makeover and will feature 28 guest rooms, an art deco-style wine bar and a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-themed restaurant.
Elements of the traditional hotel, including much of the original timberwork, will be retained, in a respectful nod to the Central’s rich past.
Mr Segboer said he was confident there was a market for a high-end CBD hotel in Tamworth.
“There’s no top-quality accommodation in the heart of town and Tamworth needs something like this,” Mr Segboer said.
“We wanted to do something special and different and I think we’ve achieved that.”
He has signed a 30-year lease for the venue from site owner, Les Atallah.
The former public bar space on the bottom floor will become a retail space, hosting three businesses.
The accommodation will open on December 15 and the wine bar and restaurant will open on January 8, in time for the festival.
