Years 5 and 6 held their Character Crusade, the culmination of a literacy unit where they selected a novel of their choice and studied it in depth, even creating a “showbag” around it comprising anything that helped further illustrate the book.
Special guest at yesterday’s Character Crusade was Manilla’s Lynn Newberry, better known to readers by the pen name Anne Rouen. She is a self-publishing author of historical romance and mystery e-books, a number of which have been recognised with prestigious literary awards, including her popular 2013 Master of Illusion series.
Students loved her insights into the process of writing a book, no doubt inspiring many young minds.
“We are excited that local author Lynn Newberry talked with us about her enjoyment of reading, words and she shared her experiences of being a published author,” student Karen Ambler, alias “Captain James Hook”, said.
“The Character Crusade was a hearty adventure.”
