But it was the hard work of volunteers that shone through, Tamworth Regional Council manager of economic and destination development Craig Dunstan said.
The new centre quietly opened its doors last month and has already seen more than 5300 visitors through the door, a five per cent increase in numbers from the same time last year, Mr Dunstan said.
New volunteer Richard Betts said he gave his time because he enjoyed meeting people from all over the world and felt he had a wealth of knowledge to share with travellers to the region.
Fellow volunteer Denise Dunstan said the “fresh, new and exciting” building was an ideal place to volunteer her time.
“I love to greet people,” she said.
“I like to tell people to come off the beaten track and explore our little towns.”
Tamworth Business Chamber president Tim Coates officially opened the new centre on Goonoo Goonoo Rd.
There are 40 “data points” at the centre for future projects, such as a phone and computer charging station.
Mr Dunstan said the coming months would see the installation of screens for people to log on and book accommodation.
He said the simple set-up was designed to get back to the core of providing information without pushing merchandise.
The opening of the new centre coincides with a new website and visitor guide.
