For the first time, workmates Philipp Sobieszuk and Sharon Harris will both be flinging themselves into the distinctly Scottish Suck It Up Buttercup mud race next Saturday.
Ms Harris is hoping the Braveheart-themed event will re-ignite healthy fitness habits.
After suffering a relationship breakdown, Ms Harris said she, like many women, put her children first and let her own physical fitness fall by the wayside.
“Normally I’m right into the fitness, but I haven’t done anything in a while. I think this will spark a good routine again,” she said.
“I thought I would throw myself into the deep end.”
Though nervous, she said she was excited for the challenge and expected strong camaraderie on the day.
“You don’t even realise doing something healthy and fit, because you’re having a hell of a lot of fun, and helping each other too – it’s human nature when you see someone stuck in the mud to pull them out.”
German national Mr Sobieszuk said he had “never seen anything like this before” and it was “literally the first thing I signed up for” when he moved to Tamworth three months ago.
“It looks insanely fun,” he said.
He said the challenge would be a way for locals to push their limits or conquer their fear of heights.
Course director Peter Manning said the third instalment of the mud run would be the biggest yet, with more than 1200 adults and 500 children signed up.
The waft of bagpipes will be heard throughout the day and Mr Manning is hoping participants will turn out in kilts and blue face paint to celebrate the Braveheart theme.
