Aaron Hazlewood, older brother of Josh, has taken 20 wickets in his past three innings for his Old Boys side in Tamworth first grade.
Josh has also been in the wickets, claiming nine in the 4-1 one-day series win over South Africa.
It has him on the cusp of a Test debut with his naming in the 12-man Test squad yesterday.
Josh, too, is an Old Boy.
He played first grade for the club as a 15-year-old and has a first grade century to his name as well before heading to Sydney.
The youngest pace bowler to have played for NSW, Josh has battled injury the last three or four seasons and actually made it as 12th man in a Test in Perth.
Now he seems destined to make his debut on the seam- friendly Gabba wicket as well as playing in next year’s World Cup.
For Aaron Hazlewood, cricket has been good in recent weeks too.
Juggling a new baby, work out west in a mine hasn’t affected his form.
Against City United a few weeks back he took 7-49 and was back at it on Saturday, capturing 6-24 in 10 overs of mayhem against the North Tamworth Redbacks at Chaffey Park.
Old Boys had been routed for 110 but Hazlewood and his teammates responded by knocking over the Redbacks for just 49.
Old Boys skipper Ben Middlebrook said Aaron’s wickettaking form has been spectacular.
And like all his Old Boys teammates and Tamworth cricket fraternity, he’s hoping Josh will receive his baggy green cap at the Gabba next Thursday.
“He deserves it,” Middlebrook said on Saturday night at a 32nd birthday party for Bective-East Bull Dougie Selems.
