The Northern Inland Credit Union-sponsored club had eight girls contest successfully at the level one, two and three at the NSW State Championships. Now the TGC’s level four and five gymnasts have excelled in Geelong on both vault and bars against some of the best gymnastics clubs in Australia, TGC coach Jan McGinnity said.
“The level four gymnastics team comprising Josie Douglas, Paige Seaton, Ellie Hanaford, Lexi May and Jemma Baker performed well on the first day of competition to finish fourth on bars and went well the following day to come out sixth overall on bars,” McGinnity said.
“The level five team of Caitlin Ham, Charlotte Fay, Alysha Baker, Amber Kuzcer and Holly Balcombe continued the success of the club by performing amazingly on all apparatus, but made the podium in fifth place on vault to uphold a strong tradition of Tamworth vaulting.
“Both teams managed to finish in the top 15 overall in the teams’ competition in Australia, which is a great result for such a small club and we are looking forward to the changing on the new levels program in 2015 with great anticipation.”
In the meantime, the club is looking forward to their annual championships this weekend where all members of the club will perform from the two year old kindy gymnasts to the national levels gymnasts. All gymnasts will receive a sample bag, sausage sandwich, drink and a gold medal.
Spectators are welcome to come and watch the talent that Tamworth Gymnastics Club produces.
The following week (December 6) the club will celebrate its 21st birthday with a celebration at West Tamworth League Club, McGinnity said.
“This night will see lots of ex-gymnasts and parents catch up and re-live the good times they had with the club and to renew old acquaintances while watching lots of slide shows and videos,” she said.
“There will be lots of memorabilia displayed on the night.”
n Anyone interested to being a part of the celebrations are asked to contact the club on 0419 217157 to reserve a spot.
