PHYSIE and Dance Tamworth’s Kiara Northey, Shelby Botfield-Mohr and Taylor Johnston have finished the year on a high – placing in the top three in Australia in their respective divisions.
Northey placed second and Botfield-Mohr third in the 1st year section and Johnston third in the 2nd year senior section at this week’s Australian Physie and Dance National Finals held at the Sydney Opera House.
Teacher Leigh Botfield said placing in the top three was a major achievement and a well-deserved reward for the hard work the three have shown in their dedication to the sport in practice and competition preparation.
“Shelby also is a teacher for the club and Taylor an assistant teacher, giving the younger girls in the club amazing and talented role models to look up to,” she said.
The girls’ journey to the Opera House started at Waroongah in October, where competing against other girls in their age groups from Qld, NSW and Victoria, they were selected as one of the top 14 to dance at the National Finals, which is the premier event for the association.
“To dance on the Opera House stage is every little physie girl’s dream come true,” Botfield said.
Jessica Shephard also had that honour, performing in the 2nd year senior section.
The club (Physie and Dance Tamworth) is only in its third year and has achieved some amazing results.
“Having 18 girls progress though to Junior National semi-finals, four girls progress to Senior National Finals and with Kiara Northey, Shelby Botfield-Mohr and Taylor Johnstons’ national placings makes for a strong and promising future for the club,” Botfield said.
She said physie was a combination of jazz, ballet, lyrical and contemporary as well as pilates and since starting with the APDA in 2012 the club has tripled in size.
Classes resume the first week in February.
