In fact, Saxon's mother Sharon is so keen for him to keep playing basketball in the house, that the kitchen table has been shifted and dining chairs moved away so he can work on his moves.

Of course, Saxon is a little different. Earlier this year, the nine-year-old hoopster set what RecordSetter.com has endorsed as a world record, with 176 spider dribble bounces in the space of 30 seconds (Guinness World Records, unfortunately, does not consider spider dribbling a "record category").

We could tell you that Saxon shows a "mad handle" that would make his NBA heroes LeBron James and Kobe Bryant envious. And we could suggest he shows the kind of dexterity not seen since Piffy the Bell Ringer was doing his thing on Pot Luck (and subsequently on The Late Show)

But the reality is that you should probably just watch the video below (and hear the incredible sounds) and judge for yourself:

 

Saxon started honing his spider skills late last year, as he convalesced from a double-fracture to his arm suffered when he was flattened by an opposing player in September 2013.

His record effort surpassed the previous mark set by an 11-year-old.

"It's been pretty fun having all my friends supporting me," Saxon said this week of his record-breaking feats.

"They are always wanting me to do it at school."

Saxon's long-term dream in basketball is to win a college scholarship to the USA. Shorter-term - as in during the 2014/15 Christmas holidays - he hopes to push his world record towards the 200-mark and also establish a new benchmark for blindfolded spider dribbling.

"I've been practising a bit by pulling my jumper up over my head and doing the spider dribble," Saxon explained.

"It [being blindfolded] is really just like dribbling while looking up instead of at the ball."

Saxon is the youngest of five kids, all of whom have been involved in athletic pursuits - from soccer to netball and dancing. His father Jade is a former rugby player and Sharon coaches basketball.

In the next few years, Saxon is likely to progress from the Grizzlies and Appollos under 12 basketball sides to the Rockingham Flames junior system in the WA Basketball League. Sharon is hopeful he will also eventually get the chance to be part of Willetton Senior High School's specialist basketball program.
