Blind tandem cyclist Bryce Lindores will be the special guest as the Tamworth community recognises its junior, young, and sports star of the year, junior and senior teams of the year and the efforts of those behind the scenes.
The calibre of nominees in the junior and young sports star categories was particularly high.
Both are littered with state representatives and champions.
Among those in line for the junior sports star are cricketers Jess Davidson and Lara Graham, BMX champ Jack Davis, Westdale league star Tyrone Nean and national backstroke champion Mikaela Short.
Oztaggers and water polo players figure prominently in the young sports star list alongside state shot put and javelin champion Jessica Aldridge, hockey stars Issac Farmilo and Dana Constable, young cricket tyro James Psarakis, state gymnastics champions Georgia Pryer and Caitlin Ham and Heeney sisters Ella and Sophie, cruiser state champion (BMX) Daniel Morris, basketballer Taylor Skelton, multi-sportsman Lachlan Wheeler and AWD runner Tayla Parker.
Hockey master Andrew Davy, NSW Country cricketer of the Year Tom Groth and boxer Bradley Moncaster will fight it out for the sports star of the year.
Lindores started cycling in 2006, two years after a freak accident six days before his 18th birthday had left him blind.
Two years later he competed at the Beijing Paralympics where he won bronze in the 4km individual pursuit.
He attended his second games in London four years later finishing with silver this time.
Off the bike Lindores has also climbed Africa’s highest mountain - Mount Kilimanjaro.
He did that in 2009.
The awards will be held at The Tamworth Sports Dome from 6pm.
