Big first round losers, Halpin’s Hurricanes celebrated a four wicket win over McDonald’s.
In the other match, Harrison Kelly also struck form, striking 15 boundaries in his 72-ball 97 for the Tamworth Plasters Works Tigers.
The Tigers had also lost their opening game by 12 runs but rebounded with a 73-run win over Steggles, making 5-155 and then skinning Steggles for 82.
Kelly and Adam Jones (35 off 25) plundered a 98-run partnership after Richie O’Halloran (1) had departed to make it 1-2.
Ben Middlebrook (3-20) finished with the best figures and should have finished with a hat trick but Brock Ridgewell dropped Anthony Bello at midwicket.
Steggles were never in the hunt after Greg Tighe (3-12) and Greg Kellett (2-14) had given the Tigers a great eight-over start.
Beau Huntriss (17) and Brad Walters (13) top scored for Steggles at nine and 10, putting on 29 for the ninth wicket as Richard Bullock, Richie O’Halloran and Mitch Newman cleaned up the tail.
At Riverside 2 the Hurricanes blew over McDonald’s, ripping them out for 124 and then replying with 6-127.
It was a fine farewell by Shaun Stevenson as well.
After claiming 3-19 from his 3.3 overs he then steered the side home with an unbeaten 42.
It was his final innings for the Hurricanes though as he was flying back to England on Sunday.
Based in Bollington, he played the just finished English cricket season with Potts Shrigley Cricket Club, near Bollington, but playing two divisions lower than Bollington, who have enjoyed such a strong cricketing relationship with Tamworth over the past decade.
“He’s going to be a big loss, he was awesome today,” Hurricane’s skipper Matt Everett said.
Everett missed the opening game of the McDonald’s TPL season and was delighted to be back and scoring runs as well.
Lack of runs was the problem for Maccas, said disappointed skipper Adam Mansfield.
“Never enough,” he said.
Maccas also played with just 10 men.
While Shaun was scoring at both ends Mansfield’s young fellow Englishman, Jack Beaumont, top scored for McDonald’s with a bright 30 off just 14 balls and Mansfield was next best with 15.
While Stevenson had fun with the ball Brad Mills (2-17), Dan Lawrence (1-13), Jack McVey (1-35) and Jarrad Smith (1-13) also bowled well.
Halpin’s seemed to be cruising at 2-65 with Stevenson and skipper Mat Everett (30) in control, but when Everett was bowled the game tightened again.
Young Tyson Rennie then snared a second successive TPL duck but Mitch Holt strode out to join Stevenson and Holt (22 off 19) added 48 for the fifth wicket.
Lachlan Davidson (1-14) was best of the McDonald’s bowlers while Beaumont completed a good game in capturing 2-33.
Jake Everett (1-33) also delighted in capturing his brother’s wicket.
POINTSCORE: Halpin’s Hurricanes 6, TPW Tigers 6, Steggles 6, McDonald’s 6.
