The 40-strong GNA, split into Tiger and Cub squads with head coaches Matt Kenny (Tigers) and Peter Stevens (Cubs), will gather for a two-day camp tomorrow and Sunday, GNA regional manager Scott Bone said.
“The camp is based at North Tamworth’s Jack Woolaston Oval and will see the players not only run through the on- field skills component of the program but also some key off- field components of the game,” Bone said.
“Players will analyze their fitness testing results from a fortnight ago, as well as have lectures on hydration and look at setting personal goals for the program and the season ahead.”
GNA regional manager Scott Bone said some former NRL players would be in attendance, with the NRL Welfare and Educations officer, Paul Walker, who will workshop the NRL CareerWise programs.
“Former NRL players Andrew Ryan, Michael Hodgson and former Greater Northern Region juniors in Dean Widders and Ben Smith will speak with the players on options for life after rugby league,” he said.
“They will give players an insight into many programs that the NRL run for young players.”
Bone said the camp would give coaches an opportunity to work with players on all the skills of the game.
“Over the two days the players have to work at high levels for long periods, which shows coaches the attitude the players will take forward over the summer,” he said.
