The Renegades announced on Friday that the Windies one-day captain was returning for a second season in the competition, after his theatrics with the bat (47 not out off 33 balls) and ball (2-23 from four overs) sealed a run-one win for the side in its final match of last summer's BBL against Adelaide - one of two matches he played for the side.

He had previously played for Victoria in the state-based Big Bash.

The Windies are scheduled to tour South Africa in December and January, with the limited-overs leg beginning on January 9. Bravo will be available to play in at least the first four Renegades matches - up to and including the January 3 Melbourne derby against the Stars at Etihad Stadium.

Teams are allowed two import slots, with Bravo set to be replaced by Kiwi tonker Jesse Ryder when the West Indian departs for South Africa.

However, the pay impasse involving the Windies board, players, and players union could lead to Bravo staying on in Australia.

Ryder would in that case take the other import slot. Other international players' options are being explored by the Renegades, but the situation is complicated by the glut of one-day internationals being played prior to the World Cup.

"What happens with West Indian selection, I have no idea," Renegades coach Simon Helmot said. "That's their business and obviously they're working through a pretty serious situation at the moment."

Bravo was at the helm when the Windies pulled out midway through last month's tour of India. Windies opener Chris Gayle said earlier this week he was hopeful the South Africa tour would proceed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has demanded $49 million compensation from the West Indies Cricket Board.
