The Leader has followed the HSC journey of Maddie Sanson and Alex Leonard for the past month and both McCarthy Catholic College students are celebrating the end of school after finishing their final HSC exams this week.
Alex and Maddie both sat the legal studies exam on Wednesday, marking the end for Alex, and Maddie finalised her exams with extension English I yesterday .
They said the legal studies exam was the one they had both dreaded, but they found it a fair exam.
Alex said it felt “weird and a bit sad” that he wouldn’t be at school anymore.
“I sat there for a while after I had read over my exam and just thought ‘this was it’,” he said.
“It’s pretty exciting, too. I’m very relieved it’s over.”
He said many students wanted to celebrate, but he felt like having a sleep and catching up for all the lost sleep over the past two years.
“There are a fair few parties planned,” he said.
“I’m going away for a short celebration next month.”
Maddie said her final English exam was “quite good” and was now ready to have quiet celebrations to mark the end of the HSC.
“It’s a little bit sad, knowing you’ll never really be there with your friends again,” she said.
She said her favourite HSC exam was ancient history and the first English exams were the hardest because she found it hard to judge whether she’d done well or not because it was such a broad subject.
Maddie said she didn’t have a big celebration planned, but would like to go away for a short shopping trip with friends.
Alex and Maddie will now anxiously await their results, which are released on December 17.
Both students will continue their education, with Alex accepted to Macquarie University to study business leadership and commerce and Maddie will attend Sydney
University to study a bachelor of arts with a view to becoming a journalist.
