After beating Oxley Vale Attunga 2-1 in the ATAC Womens T-League to take the title, the girls are keen to do it again in summer.
The team has been led to the game by Kelly Fuller and Bianca Cousins, who say they have been wanting a comp for a while.
“We have been playing in our backyards forever and want to put it out there,” Cousins said.
“So many women have so much talent in the area.
“They deserve a league of their own.”
Her husband, Shel Ravindraraj, has been charged with training technique in the nets, the injured City player only too happy to help out with an interesting mix of skill and experience in the group.
The side boasts a few girls who played for North West in their time, such as Michelle Fealy and Janice Jackson.
Fealy wasn’t holding back on the bowling at City’s first training run on Wednesday.
The side also has a few girls new to the game who are keen to try it out, and that is what the brainchild of Kathy Barber is about.
The competition involves four teams playing a T20 match every Thursday night in a round robin for the four weeks of November.
A modified ball and synthetic wicket alleviates the need for pads and protective gear to help introduce new players easily.
This short season is more of a litmus test to see the response, although the City girls already have big plans.
“We really hope it can grow into a Saturday competition,” Fuller said.
Round one will start next Thursday. Any interested players should contact City, Old Boys, North or South.
