IT WAS a storm of sorts, but while there wasn’t any rain on Monday night, there was enough wind to knock out power to thousands of homes across the district.

The skies were grey and it was the perfect scene as locals hoped for a downpour to end a record-breaking heatwave across the district.
But Mother Nature had other things in mind as wild winds ravaged the city and mini-tornadoes kicked up dust off the barren ground and played havoc in South Tamworth.
While much of the city came out of it unscathed, 1400 households in East Tamworth, Winton and Niangala were without power.
Essential Energy regional manager Ben Williams said crews were dispatched to patrol the network in East Tamworth about 6.30pm and power was restored within the house.
In the Winton area, 53 residents were impacted at 6.46pm and 58 in Niangala at 7.31pm, after the winds caused damage to the power network.
“Crews had power back on to Niangala residents at 10.36pm after completing repairs to a service line which had been brought down by a fallen tree in the strong winds,” Mr Williams said.
Power was restored in the Winton area by 2.01am on Tuesday morning after Essential Energy crews replaced a broken cross-arm.
