More than 60 locals took part in the fifth annual Twin Peaks Challenge at Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation centre this month.
The intensive course saw people mountain biking, kayaking, wrestling through an obstacle course and running to the finish line.
Tamworth Ronald McDonald House manager Chris Watson said it was their biggest fundraiser, and had raised more than $35,000, but expected later donations to bring the tally to $40,000.
Mr Watson said the funds would go towards building a fifth bedroom at Ronald McDonald House Tamworth.
“The teams all put in a huge effort and wanted to really make a difference to our community. Every time they faced a new challenge they remembered the reason they were doing it and the difference they are making,” he said.
He said the highest fundraising team was The Athletes Foot Tamworth with $11,000, and the individual who brought in the most was Peter Brazel, raising more than $2700.
Mr Watson said the Golden Boot would be auctioned off at the New Year’s Eve Ball.
He said it was thrilling to watch locals get behind a good cause and embark on the challenge, but many seriously ill children were not given a choice when they were diagnosed and were forced to take on huge medical challenges.
The Ronald McDonald House Tamworth has been running for the past six years and has provided accommodation for 1200 families with seriously ill children.
