Residents and staff from the Tamworth Bupa complex walked hand-in-hand with Calrossy schoolkids as part of national fundraising event for Alzheimer’s Australia.
According to Tamworth Bupa diversional therapist and walk co-ordinator Kushi Siddiqui, the Calrossy students also made gold-coin donations to the cause as well as supporting it physically.
It was the third annual walk by Bupa in Tamworth.
According to Ms Siddiqui, the first ever event started as a small community walk and jog in Homebush in 2008 and brought together 986 people whose lives had been touched by dementia.
In 2013, almost 5000 participants took part in events across NSW and SA and this year’s walk marked the first time it had been held across the nation.
“What started as a small community event has grown to be one of Alzheimer’s Australia’s major fundraising events,” Ms Siddiqui said.
All money raised goes directly back into the support services offered by Alzheimer’s Australia in local areas.
