I refer to the editorial in last Saturday’s Leader (Oct 18) about the Armidale and Tamworth fuel price rip-off.

The comment from the fuel provider that “There have not been enough complaints from motorists in town, so the prices will remain” is as close to an admission of price gouging as you are ever likely to see.
I have had two recent road trips to Melbourne and after leaving Tamworth, the most expensive fuel price I saw was when I returned to Tamworth.
Diesel in Tamworth at that time was 164.9 cents per litre. Next day at Young (a central western town just as far from supply as Tamworth) I filled with diesel at 148.9 cents per litre.
It’s time the consumers took control of this situation and if it’s complaints they want, let’s give it to them, but it will take a combined effort from all local motorists.
Here’s the plan – get on facebook and spread the word – “Dont go to Caltex or Shell to get your fuel.”
I’ll bet that after a few weeks of no customers at Caltex or Shell service stations, the fuel prices will plummet. But it won’t work if you don’t do it!
