Nick Hamilton was the 2012 dux of Oxley High School and is currently one of the stars of Prime 7’s reality show that sees “geeks” meeting “beauties” in the US and Australia.
He said he applied after he saw fliers at the University of NSW where he is studying a double degree in in the field of economics.
“Friends said it would be great for me and it all snowballed from there,” he said.
“It was great experience for me.”
The first episode saw Hamilton win the stripping challenge and last week he chose to stay with his American beauty, Candice.
He said he had never stripped on stage in front of 300 people before, so it was a whole new experience, but something he might now pursue.
“Considering how decently I did, I have considered it,” he said, with a laugh.
His family, who are still in Tamworth, might have other ideas.
“My mum, dad and my older sister were really excited about me going on the show, but my younger sister thinks it’s pretty embarrassing,” he said.
Hamilton said highlights from the show included meeting Candice.
“She’s a great person,” he said.
“Winning the challenge was great, so I could bring Candice back to Australia. Also meeting my Aussie beauty, Siobhan, who was lovely.”
In making his decision to keep Candice in Australia, Hamilton said it was a big moment because he’d grown close to both of them, but Candice wasn’t ready to go home yet.
The show has wrapped up filming as Australia continues to watch the journey unfold on screen every Thursday night.
“I chat to some of the other geeks three or four times a week,” Hamilton said.
“Some of them are my close friends. I made some lifetime friends there.”
Hamilton said the best part of the show was learning how to interact with beauties.
“They’re not so intimidating, they’re lovely and I’ve learned that I can have a chat with them and they won’t mind,” he said.
“I’ve been brought out of my shell a bit more.”
