Hauritz, who represented Australia in 17 Tests and 58 one-day internationals, joined the likes of Michael Hussey and South African superstar Jacques Kallis when he was unveiled on Thursday as the success-starved franchises latest recruit.

However, the 32-year-old veteran noted while the drop-in pitch had an element of uncertainty he wasn't prepared to complain.  "I really enjoy the Big Bash format, I probably haven't played to my potential playing in Brisbane," said Hauritz, who was previously a member of the Heat. "So I'm hoping the fresh start might be a change in fortune for me.

"The Showground is going to be a new ground, a new atmosphere. I won't know much about the wicket but it'll just be a case of suck-it-and-see . . . the great thing about my dealings with the Thunder is they're looking to be very positive and for everyone to enjoy playing.

"They've recruited very well, have a very good leader, a new coaching staff is also in place and I think everything is pointing in the right direction. Michael Hussey will lead that team fantastically, and he'll be helped by Kallis. I see this as a great time to be playing for the Thunder, everyone saw them turn the corner [last summer] and good things should come."
