Wet weather on Tuesday had the carnival playing catch-up games on Wednesday.
Lambert Park was the only turf wicket still out of commission, meaning one game was played on a synthetic pitch.
The Tamworth Blues picked up their first win for the week when they took care of a Quirindi side packed with current and former Australian representatives.
Quirindi went into bat first with Australian player Greg Tideman knocking a solid 25 runs at the top of the order, along with Peter Jenkins and Rick Sampson who both hit 35.
Ray Bastion knocked 34 not out and Terry Cohen chipped in with 21 for the side to finish the 40 overs on 5-195.
Tamworth shared the wickets around with Ian Kitching (1-15), David Head (1-24), Denby Budden (1-21) and Chris Crowell (1-18) all taking one each.
In reply, Tamworth Blue chased the runs down with five overs to spare with a top performance with the willow all round.
Bob Haling smashed 38, while former Australian rep Albie Barwick and Chris Crowell hit 37.
Brian Heyman (31) and Ian Kitching (27) also chipped in to get the side to 198 with the loss of only three wickets.
Greg Tideman bowled a tight innings to take 1-18 off five with Terry Cohen taking 1-22.
Tamworth Blue remain second on the ladder of Division 1 Group B after a first day loss to Sydney 1 who are on top.
Tamworth Blue share that spot with Armidale who are also one and one with Quirindi winless on the bottom. Sydney 1 bowled Armidale out for 75 runs yesterday before mowing the total down with plenty to spare.
Mid North Coast Sharks sit atop the other pool after they beat last year’s champions the Lismore Emerging Greys yesterday.
Tamworth Gold are still second in the second division despite a heavy loss yesterday.
A few injuries in the Blue side have left the Golds a bit short, but they battled on regardless against the Lithgow-based Western Wildfires.
Mike Cashman put up some resistance to finish with figures of 1-28 as the Wildfires hit 238 runs.
Players have to retire at 35 runs but can then bat again later on, with the Wildfires having five batsmen retire and return to the crease to set the big target.
Tamworth Blue stumbled with the bat to finish at 7-123 after the 40.
An upside was Ron Farrel hitting 50 and Brian Wellings retiring on 35, although the batsmen found it difficult in the middle as the pitch got a bit of life in it as the day went on.
Tamworth Blue will clash with Armidale today to battle it out for second spot, with Quirindi needing to beat Sydney if either Tamworth or Armidale are to have a chance at the title. Finals and play-off matches will be played tomorrow.
