The Tamworth Gold had a first-day bye in its five-team Second Division competition and tackled Mid North Coast Dolphins on the synthetic wicket at Newling 2 in Armidale yesterday.
Overnight rain had forced the cancellation of the four Division 1 matches, with the two Second Division games moved to the Newling 1 and 2 synthetic wickets and a late 11.30am start.
The Division 1 was to have a rest day today but yesterday’s washed-out round will be played today.
Tamworth Gold began its titles in good form though, finishing its 40 overs with 6-186 and, when the rain came again yesterday afternoon, had the MNC Dolphins 3-105 after 30.2 overs.

Mike Cashman (36no) and Ron Farrell (36no) both retired while Col Barton (19), Noel Cook (18) and Arthur Yates (27) all made good scores.
Les King (1-22), Kevin Pike (0-30 off 7 overs) and Harry Fretwell (2-21) were best of the Dolphin bowlers.
Jeff Perkins (36no) topscored for the Dolphins while Cashman (1-10), Peter Finnis (1-21) and Yates (1-25) were the three wicket-takers.
At Newling 1, UNEX almost ran down Sydney 2 in a three-run thriller.
Sydney batted first and made 8-212, with D. Wright (37), Bill Schaefer (44), Tony Wright (35) and Paul Barnes (29no) the topscorers.
Rowan Chandler (1-30), John Irvine (1-12) and Tom Vincent (2-12) all grabbed wickets for a side which chased well.
Graeme Andrews (29) Phil Allen (24), Rowan Chandler (37no), Gus Stevens (36) and Vincent (31no) almost got the UNEX boys home.
Phil Barnes (1-40), Chas Viner (1-44) and Tony Wright (1-24) all had success with the ball.
The Sydney 2 side plays MNC Dolphins today while Tamworth Gold and Western Wildfire do battle, with UNEX having a rest day.
In Division 1, Central Coast and MNC Sharks match up at Lambert Park today, with Lismore and Newcastle battling it out at Armidale Sportsground, Sydney 1 takes on Armidale New England at Harris Park and Tamworth Blue searches for a win against Quirindi in a derby game at Rologas.
