Group 4 is not only seeking official positions as well as coaches, trainers and managers for the senior and Under 18 sides, but also a Ladies League Tag coach.
Group 4 secretary Mick Schmiedel said the success of the Ladies League Tag Country Championship in Scone last weekend might have sewn the seeds for a Greater Northern ladies’ league tag championship next year.
“It might not happen but if it does we want to be ready,” Schmiedel said.
“We’ll have a coach in place if it does go ahead.”
He said the success of the Country Championship in Scone last weekend has continued the rise in the Ladies League Tag, which had its inception in Group 4’s first division clubs this year.
Oxley Diggers won the Group 4 First Division Ladies League Tag grand final against North Tamworth.
The two sides then played well at Scone, Oxley Diggers finishing third and North Tamworth fourth after they were beaten in semi- finals against eventual winners Kiama andLeeton.
“The Oxley girls had one loss and Norths two, I think, down there,” Schmiedel said.
“We (Group 4) sent four sides down though. Walcha and Bendemeer also went from Second Division.
“Walcha missed out but Bendy made the quarter-finals.”
The Group 4 AGM is on Sunday, November 9, starting 10am at the Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club.
“All positions are vacant,” Schmiedel said.
Schmiedel is also the Oxley Diggers club president and said its AGM would be this Friday night at Diggers.
“We’re also looking for coaches for all grades,” he said.
In its first season, Oxley Diggers fielded first grade, second grade and ladies league tag and fulfilled all commitments.
Next year they hope to have an Under 18 side too, Schmiedel said.
“Willy (Jerrard) was going to coach them (18s) this year but we couldn’t get enough players,” Schmiedel said.
“Athol (Munro) is going to help him this year.”
Friday night’s Oxley Diggers AGM starts at 6.30pm.
