The Men of League Foundation is a rugby league charity started in 2002 to support former players and the rugby league community.
It will be somewhat of a grand final replay as well, with former Great Britain representative and Canterbury Bulldog backrower Mick Adams there.
Adams now resides in Tamworth and will be the guest speaker along with McCarthy.
David Gale is going to interview the Rabbitohs legend on stage before Ron Surtees interviews Adams, followed by a bit of Q&A from the crowd.
Two years ago a group of men, including former Eastern Suburbs player Kevin Robinson, decided to get the charity up off the ground in the region.
Two years later the numbers are up and there are several sub branches operating from places like Barraba, Manilla and Nundle.
The North West branch’s first ever gala dinner will be opened by Men of League CEO Correne Strauss.
She was appointed to the role earlier this year.
While Strauss is flying in, McCarthy chose to go on the road, despite the foundation offering to fly him.
Unfortunately, ticket sales have not lived up to expectations.
“I thought they would have come out of the woodwork to come and spend the night with Bob McCarthy,” Robinson said.
Ticket sales closed on Thursday with only 90 seats sold.
More tickets will now be available at the Blazes door for $30 on the night.
The $30 tickets will not include any catering but will give you access to the bar and show.
“Come down, spend the night and have a beer with Bob McCarthy and the others for 30 bucks,” Robinson said.
“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“I am an Eastern Suburbs (Sydney Roosters) man but I am not that one-eyed.
“It is going to be a top night.”
The North West Men of League Volunteer of the Year Award will also be presented on the night.
For more information, call Robinson on 0408 068998.
The tickets on the door are limited and will open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
