Sunrise's David Koch and Samantha Armytage, Channel Nine presenter Peter Overton and the ever-quirky Lee Lin Chin of SBS are just a few of the famous faces that have come together in a Brady Bunch-style video giving a sneak peek into the Friday Night Crack Up.
Broadcast live to air, the Friday Night Crack Up is a live television variety show hosted by Eddie Perfect tomorrow night in recognition of mental health week.
For a little taste of what Perfect has in store, the ABC has released a two-minute teaser video that layers the melodic and percussive talents you never knew your daily newsreaders had.
Simon Reeve dominates with lead vocals, giving an impressive interpretation of the Stealers Wheel favourite, ably supported by Karl Stefanovic's scatting in the bass.
The Project's Carrie Bickmore and Fairfax columnist Annabel Crabb are the percussive glue that keeps the group in time – with their hands and wooden spoons.
But it's Peter Overton's euphonious tones in the instrumental at about 1.23 minutes that stick in the mind.
Friday Night Crack Up is set to showcase musical items, games and sketches from a range of Australian comedians, musicians and identities.
Host Eddie Perfect said: "I can't lie. I have no idea how a live television variety show in support of Mental Health Week is going to work because none of us have done this before.
"What I do know is that we have an unprecedented line-up of singers, actors, musicians, comedians and writers joining together despite their conflicting network affiliations, throwing caution to the wind and bringing their considerable gifts to the table in support of mental health. It's precisely my anarchic idea of a good time, actually," he said.
"It's time to talk about mental health; an issue which eventually touches every single one of us. Might as well enjoy ourselves while we're at it."
