The club will embark on a new holistic approach to training after an amalgamation with 360 Fitness Club.
The new partnership was launched at the fitness centre yesterday.
Scully Park president Martin Prendergast said after more than 45 years of preparing local swimmers to compete at a regional, state and national level, the club was looking forward to taking this next step with 360 Fitness Club.
“The amalgamation with 360 Fitness Club is a great opportunity for Scully Park to build on its proud history to create an even stronger future for local swimming,” Prendergast said.
The new holistic approach to training will combine top-level swim coaching with dry land training overseen by an exercise physiologist, and nutritional advice from an accredited practising dietitian.
360 Scully Park’s year-round program will also include both short and long course training, with summer sessions split between the Scully Park outdoor 50-metre pool and 360’s indoor 25- metre pool.
According to former head coach of the NIAS swimming squad Diane Gray, this holistic approach is “of the like never experienced before in Tamworth – this is a wonderful opportunity for local swimmers to benefit from high-calibre training programs in high-quality facilities that are usually only available in the city.”
The amalgamation will involve 360 Fitness Club taking responsibility for pool access, coaching and access to health professionals, while the Scully Park volunteer-run organisation will continue to raise funds to help swimmers travel to compete at carnivals.
360 Fitness Club Owner Jay Lynch says the organisation is pleased to be able to contribute to improving the health of the community.
“360 Scully Park has a terrific opportunity to further grow the sport of swimming by harnessing the expertise of our talented health and fitness industry professionals,” Lynch said.
“We hope that the combination of a varied and holistic approach to training with the natural talent of our swimmers will help develop Tamworth’s standing as a centre of swimming excellence.”
