In a stunning backdown, Fairfax Media has revealed Tony Abbott plans to ask the Speaker Bronwyn Bishop and Senate President Stephen Parry to reconsider their interim ruling, that would see anyone wearing the burqa confined to glassed enclosures, normally reserved for school children.
The measure would ensure that Muslim women would not have to reveal their identities but everyone entering the building would still have to go through a metal detector.
