The Gunnedah Bulldog was on his way to Sydney yesterday for the grand final weekend with fellow Gunnedah Bulldog David “Dooga” McCann.
They coach the Gunnedah Under 18s and will be lining up to coach the junior side in 2015 too.
“Dooga is a Souths fan,” Hilton said yesterday.
“While he played for Canterbury, he’s going for the Rabbitohs.
“I think the Bunnies will be too good too.”
Hilton was a Newcastle Knights fan before he had a couple of season with the Knights Under 20s a few years back.
Back in home town Gunnedah, where he works as a teacher’s aide at St Xavier’s Primary School, he’s been a mainstay of the Bulldog first grade side for a few years .
This season, his good form was rewarded with The Northern Daily Leader Group 4 Player of the Year Award.
He’s also hoping a horror year injury- wise will be wiped away next season.
While the first grade side lost the Group 4 first grade grand final to North Tamworth 56-18, Hilton believes there’s plenty of promise in the squad.
“I don’t think we’ll lose many from this year’s side,” he said.
“Plus we’ll get a couple coming up from the juniors and there’s a couple of others who haven’t played for a year or two because of their jobs in the mines.
“They’re a bit more settled in work now and look like returning too.
“We’ve also got some good young players who have been gaining experience.
“Look at DJ Smith for one, he’s just out of the 18s but been playing first grade for three seasons.
“Then Matty Brady was just starting to hit his straps before he got hurt.”
The Bulldogs will conduct their presentation night at the Gunnedah Services Bowling Club next Saturday with the club’s annual general meeting on Sunday, October 19.
