face only a mother could love: A Sphynx breed sits awaiting judging at the Tamworth Cat Club show on Saturday.
THEY'RE nearly hairless, have enormous ears and a reputation for being the ugliest cats in the world but to their owners, the Devon rex breed are simply beautiful.
“It’s a cat only the owners can love,” cat club president Rosemary Rogers said.
Besides being known for their out-there appearance, lovers of the Devon rex say they are easy to maintain and are the perfect pet for asthmatics, due to their lack of hair.
The breed shared the stage with every type of cat imaginable on Saturday when the Tamworth & District Cat Club held itsannual show at Tamworth High School.
Judges ran their discerning eyes over nearly 140 felines as their owners proudly watched on and ribbons were awarded to those deemed the best in show.
“It was wonderful, a great success,” Mrs Rogers said.
The best way to glory in the ring?
Good genes and a good name apparently, as a father and daughter team took out first and second place in the Bengal speciality ring.
Bengal female Benzots Annie Chance, owned by Armidale breeder Lyn Keevers, took out the prize ahead of her Bengal father, Benzots The Gambler, who was named after country music superstar Kenny Rogers.
With cats named after Coco Chanel and other of her favourite celebrities, Mrs Keevers laughingly said she put more time into naming her cats than naming her five children.
“I love Keith Urban, he’s definitely next on the list.”
Mrs Keevers said that her prize male nicknamed “Kenny” wouldn’t mind in the slightest being overtaken by his daughter.
“Annie had the last miaow,” Mrs Keevers said .
