The recent golf day raised $36,000 for local charitiies such as Billabong House, NIAS, House Of Hope and the Vietnam Vets.
Wally Franklin is one of the organisers and he was delighted with this year’s edition, held last week.
“We raised $36,000,” Franklin said.
“All that stays here with local charities.
“Billabong House will receive $8000, NIAS $5000, House Of Hope $5000 and the Vietnam Vets $3000,” Franklin said.
“Plus more will be distributed to other local charities through the year.
“This golf day is just growing bigger and better.
“We had 155 players this year and had three and four groups on each hole but we did pretty well to get through it.
“And everyone gets a prize.”
Held at the Longyard Golf Club on Thursday, September 18 it will return around the same time next year.
For Carlo Cavallaro, it is becoming a perfect charity ride.
“He’s got 21 stores through NSW now – he just opened a big new one in Mt Tambourine (Queensland) too,” Franklin said.
“He employs in excess of 1200 people now but lives in Tamworth and calls Tamworth home.
“He’s got 60 staff alone at his headquarters in Sydney.
“And a lot of them were up here helping run the golf day.”
Carlo’s IGA marketing manager Andy Pecora was one of those and, with Wally and Carlo, enabled the day to run as smoothly as it did.
Winners of the day were G Adams, A Davis, A Hitchen and J Gray. Runners-up were John O’Rourke, Brett Edwards, Kevin Johns and Tommy Edwards with third place going to John Muller,Garry Norris, Lester Koch and Warren Ryan.
