TAMWORTH’S music fraternity can always be relied on to help out a fellow musician in need and earlier this month a band of brothers and sisters came together to lend a helping hand to one of the region’s favourite singer/songwriters.

Wendy Wood, of Those Gals and Two Gals fame, has a daughter with cystic fibrosis and has to make regular trips to Brisbane by car to be with her when she has treatments.
It’s a costly exercise – just the parking costs over $30 a day – and fellow singer Jodie Crosby got together with friends to organise a fundraiser for Wendy on September 14 at the Southgate Inn.
“I thought after watching Wendy going backwards and forwards to be with Cassie and missing out on gigs and work, and all the help she has given others in need, that I wanted to do something for her,” Jodie said.
So the Helping Hand concert was mounted and featured Bruce O’Hara, Samantha Bellamy, Ray Pratley, Glen Crosby, Wanita, Loren Ryan and Scotty Troutman, Eddy Tolhurst, Kerry Walsh and Mike Casey, Steve Charles, Clayton Crosby and his daughters Kayla and Anna, Carolyne Morris, Ethan Crosby-Wolfe and The Crosby Sisters.
Of course, it was only natural that Wendy would have a sing as well.
Russell Bellette, Kim Beare, Dally Croft and Randall Wilson lent their musical expertise as the backing band and Peter Scott held it all together at the sound desk.
With a small door charge, raffles and donations, the concert raised $1500 on the day which was handed to Wendy at the culmination of the concert.
“I am overwhelmed and humbled by the support and I thank the people who came and helped,” Wendy said.
But that wasn’t all.
The following day an anonymous member of the audience rang Jodie to make another donation – a 1oz nugget of pure gold valued at over $1300.
