Somerton Public School students gathered to sing in unison to rehearse for the Music: Count Us In annual sing-along.
Next month they will raise their voices with half a million other students from more than 2000 schools dotted across Australia to sing the same song on the same day at the same time.
Somerton Public School principal Jodie Bishop said it was the first time the small school had participated and said the program was fantastic for teachers who lacked confidence in teaching music.
“It also encourages the students to participate in music. It exposes them to that world.
“I think it’s really vital to develop that creative side as well in our students.”
She said the students “love it” and she often heard the kids singing the song at the bus stop after rehearsal. The children will be singing Paint You A Song – a piece composed by students specifically for the project – on Thursday, October 30.
