Your 11 points are intelligent and logical.
Yes, our current flag is our national flag and I do believe most Australians do respect it and fly it with pride; however, we are a vibrant nation which stands on our own two feet in this world and we have done so for many, many years.
Yes, our current flag has emotional ties for those who have served under it and for our historical links to the United Kingdom. However, change is needed and just in case it’s been missed, Canada dropped the Union Jack from its flag and that nation did not implode or cease to exist.
South Africa changed its flag and that nation did not implode or cease to exist.
New Zealand looks pretty certain that it will change its flag soon and I am confident that New Zealand will not implode and the country will go on as normal.
If the people of Scotland do vote today to become an independent nation then the Union Jack – that symbol of the “mother country” that sits in the top left quarter of our national flag and most of our state flags – will also have to change!
Think about it people – yes, our current flag is our national flag but it is time to move on, as other commonwealth nations have done or are looking at doing, and have a flag that represents our own nation.
Australia.
