With 28 teams and two full rinks, the club had a big weekend, capped by a slender win for the trio of Terry and Bob Cummings and Mick Tarbert.
They finished with five wins and a margin of +50.
That gave them a narrow win over the trio of Brett Preston, Danny Daley and Luke Russell (5wins +47) with home team Peter Heeney, Danny Flemming and Norm Butler just a further six shots adrift with five wins and a +39 margin.
Ron O’Toole, Les Goodchild and Craig O’Toole were just three shots away (5 wins +36) in fourth while Manilla’s Dylan, Ryan and Graham Wells were fifth with 5 wins and a +19 margin.
Sixth were Ron Barnett, Graham Harriott and Kim Greentree with 4 wins +49.
Harriott and Greentree needed to win to dislodge South Tamworth’s Nick Golledge at the top of the CNDBA Bowler of the Year Award (BOTYA).
They didn’t and Golledge managed to retain his 10-point lead over second-placed Chris Herden with Harriott and Greentree finishing third and fourth.
“It was a great weekend at Kooty,” BOTYA organiser Phil Johnson said.
“Bob, Mick and Terry did well to win. That was worth $1800 to them but Luke, Danny and Brett came ever so close to winning too.
“They were five in front in their last game, going for six wins, and the other side dropped a six on them.
“Can you believe that.
“You only get two bowls each so there are only six shots available and they lost all six on the final end.”
While the Kooty Triples was another success, it brought the CNDBA’s BOTYA to an end as well, with Golledge winning from last year’s winner Chris Herden.
“Nick deserved to win,” Johnson said. “He’s been consistently good all year.
“He’ll win the cash as well as the Bob Fowler Medal. Bob Key and the CNDBA have introduced the Bob Fowler Medal in honour of one of the best bowlers to have come out of Tamworth.
“He was a State rep and won a State Triples title too.”
