The 19-year-old was joined by her parents and local SES hierarchy at Parliament House on September 9 to receive the SES Young Volunteer of the Year Award.
Namoi Region Controller Andrew Galvin said the young volunteer had already completed a large number of SES training courses.
“The completion of so many courses in such a short amount of time, particularly Rescue Operation and Vertical Rescue is testament to Shirley’s level of commitment to the SES,” Mr Galvin said.
“She has demonstrated a diligence, persistence and professionalism that are beyond her years.”
The NSW SES Young Volunteer of the Year Award recognises the contribution of a young volunteer between the ages of 16 and 25 who has demonstrated a commitment to learning and activities as a member of a NSW SES Unit or Region.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall joined Ms Heap at the awards ceremony.
“Already, Shirley’s dedication to training has earned her the respect of her older peers and she will soon be the youngest member in the Unit to complete the Road Crash Rescue course,” Mr Marshall said.
