The fundraising group was formed four decades ago to support the efforts of an organisation that’s gone through numerous name changes over the years but has never lost focus of its aim to provide services and support to the disabled and their families.
Group member Wendy Bennet said they still had members involved who were at the first meeting to form the fundraising committee 40 years ago.
Northcott was known as the NSW Society for Crippled Children when it opened an office in Tamworth in 1974, followed by respite centre Salona House a year later.
The Ford St respite house was opened in 1987 and by 1995 the organisation became known as the Northcott Society, in honour of Sir John Northcott who was patron of the society and a former governor of NSW.
Ten years later it would become Northcott Disability Services and a new headquarters was opened in Goonoo Goonoo Rd in 2009.
In 2012 it simply became Northcott.
Mrs Bennet said to celebrate the 40th anniversary, a lunch would be held at the Calala Inn on September 17 from noon.
“Anyone who has been in any way involved in this small and friendly group and would like to attend this function, to help the current members and celebrate and reminisce about past activities and functions, would be most welcome,” she said.
