On Tuesday night, a 24-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were in a bedroom of a Belmore St home when they heard a noise outside their bedroom door.
The incident unfolded about 10.30pm when the woman got up to investigate the noise and found a man armed with a knife inside the home.
Police said the man attempted to barge his way into the bedroom and struck the door before threatening the pair, demanding money.
After a short time the offender fled the scene out a rear door with knives and a knife holder that he stole from inside the home. No one was injured, but the door sustained significant damage during the altercation.
Detectives were called to the scene and a crime scene was established in the hunt for clues.
Police have released a limited description of the man who is believed to be Caucasian and about 25 to 30 years old.
Now they’re appealing for anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the Belmore St area around the time of the incident to contact Tamworth police or Crime Stoppers.
