I live on the Goonoo Goonoo Rd, a few hundred metres to the north of McDonald’s and the Longyard precinct.
At the front of our property the shoulder of the road is unsealed and is consequently a favourite car and truck pull-off point.
It is also a favourite rubbish-dumping location.
I sometimes wonder why I shouldn’t approach McDonald’s for a sponsored bin.
On many occasions I have witnessed motorists, and their passengers, opening their car windows and tossing out generous handfuls of rubbish with absolute impunity.
I ask what has happened to us?
Whatever happened to Keep Australia Beautiful?
When I was growing up, that campaign was ever present. It certainly educated me about being responsible for my rubbish and, so too, those around me.
I haven’t heard that slogan for a long time. Has it been lost?
Might I ask that you spare a postage stamp space in your newspaper for a message to the public about being responsible for their rubbish?
Better still, when you’re stuck for headlines, give it the front page.
Perhaps we ought to threaten to enter Tamworth in the tidy towns competition?
I’m afraid the roadside at the front of my house would scuttle any hopes of that dream.
Do I need to provide photos to add journalistic gravity? They’re easy to obtain.
