Just days after the club announced Paul McGregor would remain in the top job for the next three seasons, the Dragons gave their boss plenty more to smile about after a 34-6 victory at WIN Jubilee Oval.

They came into the round clinging on to slim hopes of playing finals football, knowing they needed to win all three of their remaining games against the Titans, Broncos and Knights to have any chance of featuring in September.

"They've come off a 40 point win, playing at home and have everything to play for like we have," McGregor said of the Broncos.

"Its a five-day turnaround. They've done us no favours at [NRL] headquarters but we have to deal with that and regroup. We won't change too much ... we're looking forward to it. The group's looking forward to what's coming, and that's important. You see today, when we forced those errors, how much it means to them."

While they haven't moved out of 11th position despite the win, the Dragons will head up to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night with their destiny in their own hands.

The win may have come at a cost with Benji Marshall and Josh Dugan picking up ankle injuries in the second half.

Marshall rolled his right ankle in the 43rd minute and hobbled through the next 15 minutes of play before McGregor decided to take no chances and rest his five-eighth, who had one of his better games in the red V on Sunday afternoon.

Dugan injured his left ankle in the final 10 minutes, leaving the field as a precautionary measure with the result beyond doubt.

"They're going to get scans tomorrow," McGregor said.

"We'll have to see how they come up. They both left the field, but Josh at the end was more precautionary. We have to have a good look at that. Benji limped around for a little while but he had to stay out there because at the time we weren't comfortable we had enough points to go away with the game. When we got enough points he came from the field. He was heavily in ice so we have to see how he goes."

In front of a crowd of 9584, it was the club's new recruits, Marshall and Gareth Widdop, who starred for the Dragons, while Dugan continued his impressive development in the unfamiliar centre position.

The loser of Friday night's Dragons-Broncos match will be forced to start planning for 2015, however the victor is still no guarantee of playing finals football.

The Dragons, Broncos and Warriors are all on 26 points, two points behind Parramatta, North Queensland and Melbourne, who have a game in hand against Penrith on Monday night.

It could come down to for and against, however the Dragons are not in a healthy position with a points differential of -21.

The future finally looks bright for the Dragons, with skipper Ben Creagh backing the club's appointment of McGregor until the end of 2017.

"We've been hoping that would be the case since he took over," Creagh said.

"A lot of the guys have spoken about how much respect he has from all players in our club. He's very honest and upfront, which is what you want from a first grade coach.

"It's exciting to know he's going to be coach for the next three years and it adds a bit of stability for the side knowing who the coach is going to be ...I gave my opinion to the CEO on who should be coaching and I backed Mary 100 per cent all the time. The amount of work Mary had put into this side, it was important that got continued on not only next year, but for years to come."
