Quirindi will hold its first Parade of Lights with the starring spots taken by about 90 kindy kids leading the way.
Organisers Annette Wallis, Camilla Dubois and Jessie Harradine have been hard at work to get the inaugural event up and running.
Mrs Wallis said they hoped it would become something bigger, drawing on inspiration from cross-cultural lantern festivals.
The preschool children’s lanterns will be lit with tea lights. They will walk among the trees at the tennis club, which will be decorated with 32 large lanterns.
The path will be lit by tea lights in white paper bags.
Organisers hope the childrens’ siblings and parents will also join in.
“We’re really excited about it being a magical, community event,” Mrs Harradine said. “The pied piper will be a ukulele player who will lead the parade.”
Mrs Dubois said the parade was all about celebrating the light that comes from within children.
“We also want to cultivate that sense of magic and enchantment that’s so easy for children to access, but harder for adults, but hopefully everyone can access that on the night,” she said.
“We want the whole community to be transformed.”
For those who don’t have their own lanterns, paper and balloon lanterns will be for sale on the night for families for a gold-coin donation.
The tennis club will hold a sausage sizzle from 5.30pm and the parade will begin after sunset.
