When captain coach Nathan Hamlin earmarked the final round game to be a fundraiser for breast cancer and sponsors day no-one expected the club to be putting the finishing touches on an undefeated minor premiership.
The Roosters will be playing in a full pink strip that will be individually auctioned off in the comfort of the Kooty Hotel on Saturday night, as well as plenty of other raffles, and activities.
“I wanted to leave behind a bit of a legacy at the club,” Hamlin said.
The Walcha Roos have eased into a home final on the back of only six wins, regardless of the result of this match, but are the only thing standing between Kooty and the their fourteenth victory of a 14 game season.
While the Roos haven’t been a model of consistency this season they can trouble anyone on their day.
Coach Peter Berry said that the Roos are going in focused on their own game, specifically possession.
“Our defence ha been good lately but we have been dropping a lot of ball,” Berry said.
As the Roos prepare to host Creek or Boggy in next week’s elimination final the coach is looking for an improvement in ball control and set completions.
“We can sometimes play with a lack of confidence and it costs us,” Berry said.
The return of Jason Latham is a bonus for the Roos who have missed him at halfback with a back injury.
The Roosters are also going in fully cocked.
“We are going in full but level headed,” Hamlin said.
“We are not thinking about the finals just yet and just want to put this win under our belts.”
“We put a score on them last time so they will be looking to get one back on us.”
In the other match, the final position is up for grabs when Boggabri come across to Werris Creek.
Creek sit two points in front of Boggy who will have to put at least 42 points over the Magpies to swoop in on fifth.
