Rated internationally at 123, he ambled around the 800-metre course.

With a busy spring and early summer ahead, Lankan Rupee wasn't asked to reach any great heights by jockey Craig Newitt.

"He was just here to sort of blow out the cobwebs and he felt great," Newitt said. "He wasn't pushed, we didn't need to do anything with him. It was just a float trip down the road and a chance to give him a little hit-out.

"He did everything we wanted him to do and he took everything this morning in his stride."

Newitt, one of Australia's strongest left-hand whip riders, reflected on how Lankan Rupee had gone from an anxious galloper to one of the world's quickest horses.

"It's just a great contrast. He used to reef and pull and tug and he just basically did so much wrong. One day we took him to a lowly benchmark 74 race and he got beaten.

"And then the decision was made to geld him. From then on, his form went through the roof.

"Now, instead of mucking around, he just does everything you want him to do and isn't anxious about doing it."

In the last racing season, Lankan Rupee took world racing by storm.

After winning the Oakleigh Plate, he won Australia's premier sprint event the Newmarket Handicap and then showed his true class by scoring during the Championships in Sydney.

It's seems that wet or dry, Lankan Rupee has become the most revered sprinter in Australasia.

The Mick Price-trained galloper will trial again next Tuesday at Caulfield, but this time will be asked to do more.

"We might push him along a little bit more next Tuesday and perhaps Mick might take him to the races, and give him a gallop, but that's up to him," said Newitt.

"But he's very much on target."

Lankan Rupee is expected to make his return to racing in the McEwan Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 6, a group 2 event with $200,000 prizemoney.

His major spring goal will be the $1 million 1200m Darley Classic at Flemington on November 8.

If successful there, he would head to Hong Kong for the rich Global Challenge Series event at Sha Tin.
