The Crows issued a please-explain to the AFL relating to Sloane’s shot from the pocket that landed close to the base of one of the goalposts and was originally deemed to be a goal before a review called it a point.

AFL umpiring director Wayne Campbell contacted the Crows on Monday to confirm the official had made the wrong call in the match at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, which the Tigers won by 10 points in a thrilling finish.

League football operations manager Mark Evans said it was possible the ball did hit the post, but a review of the vision available to the official on the night should not have been judged conclusive enough to say for certain.

‘‘The goal reviewer believes that the ball changed its rotational pattern when three different angles showed it was approximate to the post,’’ Evans said. ‘‘But we would say that you should only overturn a score when it’s beyond reasonable doubt, and we don’t think that it was in this case.

‘‘It may well have hit the post, but we don’t think it was conclusive enough to overturn the decision.’’

Sloane’s goal would have reduced the margin to 19 points at the 30-minute mark of the quarter.

Although it was a tight game, Adelaide kicked a behind and then the next goal less than two minutes after Sloane’s goal was disallowed.

It’s understood the Crows want the AFL to have goal-line cameras attached to the goalposts at Adelaide Oval, and goal umpires to wear cameras on their hats when officiating at the ground next year.

Crows midfielder Richard Douglas said he and his teammates were convinced Sloane’s snap shot was a goal.

‘‘All of us players out on the field, including the Richmond players, thought it was a goal,’’ he said on Monday. ‘‘It doesn’t have too much of a bearing on the outcome, we got outplayed throughout the night.’’
