The dartboard and race’s best is Audio Pixel, an odd combination of cutting edge design of digital speakers in Israel and property investments in Sydney’s Crows Nest. It could have blared through the sound barrier the way it surged last week for no known reason, foiling even the ASX’s safety camera which was nowhere to be seen.

Not far behind is solar and uranium enrichment supplier Silex Systems chosen by fund manager John Aldersley.

The stock jumped 22 per cent in a week even though it doesn’t release its results until August 27.  In a single day it climbed 9 per cent.

The market is in the thick of the profit reporting season and likes most of what it’s seen so far to the point of overlooking the potential impact of the wars in Ukraine, Iraq and Gaza.

Or that the Reserve Bank trimmed this year’s growth forecast.

But CBA, chosen by yours truly anticipating a good result which it more than delivered, was marked down because management wasn’t gung ho about the economic outlook. I mean really, not even Joe Hockey is.

Domino’s Pizza, chosen by chartist Richard Pritchard and the Financial Review’s  Phil Baker, is another race highlight coming in fourth. It recently expanded into Japan which contributed about one-third of the year’s 50 per cent profit increase.

The race enters its second week with some heavy hitters due to report, among them Newcrest and Stockland (Monday); Amcor, BHP, QBE, IAG and Toll (Tuesday); AGL, Ansell, Brambles, Coca-Cola Amatil, Fortescue Metals and Woodside (Wednesday); AMP, Asciano, ASX, Mirvac, Origin and Tatts Group on Thursday.
