IT’S shaping up as the Kenny and Kasey show with the announcement Kasey Chambers will headline next year’s Tamworth festival opening concert in Bicentennial Park.
It’s traditionally one of the biggest events of the festival, this year’s concert attracting more than 10,000 people.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that international superstar Kenny Rogers is returning to Tamworth to perform at TRECC on the final day of the festival.
Chambers, the recipient of 13 Golden Guitars and a swag of chart-topping singles and albums, said she was excited by the opportunity.
“We always love coming to Tamworth, and I’m excited to be headlining the opening concert where I’ll be playing songs from all my albums and some new music from my brand new album, Bitter Sweet,” she said.
Festival manager Gavin Flanagan said after this year’s opening night success with Adam Harvey and Troy
Cassar-Daley, the bar had been set “pretty high” so the pressure had been on to secure an artist of Chambers’ calibre.
“We’ve confirmed Kenny, now Kasey, but we’re also excited to announce that some of Australia’s finest country talent has been confirmed to perform in Tamworth in January,” he said, with O’Shea, The Bushwackers, the Viper Creek Band, Felicity Urquhart, Paul Costa and Aleyce Simmonds all locked in for January, with many more announcements in the coming months.
The opening concert will take place in Bicentennial, or as it’s known during the festival, Toyota Park, and is free to all ages.
Tickets for Kenny Rogers are on sale now and tickets for other shows will go on sale shortly.
