GUNNEDAH United head to Armidale without one of their main McDonald’s Premier League strike weapons tomorrow.
The Richard Grant-coached United, who fell 4-2 to South Armidale Scorpions last Saturday, match up against North Armidale Redmen without Andy Cygem.
“Andy’s been one of our best all season,” Grant said.
“But he won’t be playing against North. He’s been on our scoring sheet all season.”
Cygem also knocked in United’s two goals to enable them to draw level at 2-all with Souths last weekend only to leak two late goals against their Armidale opposition.
It was one of the only piece of joy for Armidale sides in the PL lat weekend.
OVA Mushrooms dumped Demon Knights 5-1 at Scully Park, under-strength Tamworth FC beat East Armidale 1-nil at Johnson Field, Tamworth and North Armidale drew 3-all with Namoi United in Narrabri.
New Northern Inland Football general manager, Steve Griffith, was in Narrabri and watched the United-Redmen game.
“Namoi United were heart broken,” Griffith told The Leader.
“They led 3-2 with 30 seconds left but Willow Grieves scored to level it up.
“North were very happy with that.. The Northern Conference sides might have to regroup after this although the Southern Conference sides did have home ground advantages.”
Namoi United’s near-miss would have presented a second win in recent weeks after the side had swamped Moree FC recently.
Their successes have enabled the side to move up to six points, equal with Moree FC at the bottom of the Southern Conference.
They host Guyra United at Captain Cook Oval tomorrow while East Armidale, North Armidale and South Armidale all have home games, East hosting OVA at Doody Park, South Armidale Scorpions hoping to sting Tamworth FC at Armidale Sportsground and North Armidale at home on Phil Wheaton Oval to Gunnedah United.
Demon Knights are the only Armidale side away, tackling North Companions at Marius Street, Tamworth while Joeys FC complete Saturday’s round with a home game against Moree FC.
Joeys then hit the road to play Tamworth FC at Johnson Field on Sunday.
